Driving Miss Daisy is a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Alfred Uhry about the 25-year friendship between an elderly Jewish widow, Daisy Werthan, and her African American chauffeur, Hoke Colburn, in Atlanta from the 1940s to the 1970s. The play, inspired by Uhry's own grandmother, explores themes of race, aging, and class through their evolving relationship, which moves from initial tension to deep mutual respect and affection, set against the backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement.
