THE RAINMAKER follows a day in the life of the Curry family, cattle ranchers living in a drought-ridden, rural town in the Depression-era West as they struggle to save their livelihood and try to help Lizzie, the unlucky-in-love only daughter, get married. On this particular day, fiery grifter Bill Starbuck visits the family and promises, for $100, he can bring back the rain. Instead, however, he gives them something much greater- hope.
